Transport insurance

1) Domestic transport

The insurance of transport in domestic trade covers all the damages that affect shipments during their transport, such as damages due to traffic accidents involving the vehicle (collision, impact, overturning), natural disasters (fire, explosion, lightning strike), damages which arise due to manipulation of goods, as well as other damage due to transport risks such as partial theft, theft and non-delivery of whole packages, water-damaged goods, contact with other objects, and the like.

When buying insurance the insured party can choose between two policies that relate to one-off and multiple transport. By getting a single policy, the carries provides an insurance coverage for one-time transport of certain goods, while the general policy applies to all shipments that the carrier will carry out during a certain period, usually during one calendar year.

2) International transport

Insurance of transport in international trade ensures the liability of the insured as a carrier towards transport users for proven full or partial loss, consignment damage or delay in domestic and international transport carried out on the basis of a waybill or a contract. By getting an insurance for international transport, the insured shall receive compensation for all the amounts he has to pay on the basis of the liability prescribed in the conditions, as well as any legal costs and other extraordinary expenses.

As with domestic transport, and with insurance related to international transport, the insured party may choose between two types of insurance duration – one-off or long-term insurance. Thus, single policy insures one-time transport, while with the open-cover contract carrier can insure the performance of international transport for a longer period which will cover all carried consignments.

3) Carrier liability insurance (CMR)

Subject matter of transport insurance can be liability of the owners of goods or vehicles – which is also called carrier liability insurance. With this insurance, the policyholder insures its liability as a carrier towards transport users – for proven full or partial loss, consignment damage or delay in domestic and international transport carried out on the basis of a waybill or a contract.

The insurance premium depends on the amount of the insurance cover and is determined in the insurance policy.
